Harry Potter & the Savior of the Wiz Reich

Derp aside for a moment...

Okay so we all should agree that the Harry Potter universe (Rowhell? Sure) is a terrible dystopian
place where the "master" race (wizards) use their weapons and wizardry to enslave or control the rest of the world. The struggle in the story is not good versus evil, rly. It's mean Nazis versus nice Nazis, you know the ones that "kindly" let you stay alive as long as you are in no way threatening.

The kmporant point to me, I think, is the belief by the author that she's writing a hero's tale. Cute (arguably) white male hero must defeat ugly male villain to save the master race from the more extreme version of themselves. And yay he wins and literally becomes a secret police cop.

Spoilers, sorry.

That the author sees that as GOOD should have been a super early indicator that she was fked in the head. Non-humans? Menial labor. "Oh but they love it!" Half giant falsely ccused of dark magic? Evidence revealed! "Eh so what he's just a half giant."

Goblins want equal rights? "Ooh let's make a game aboug violently suppressing them, framing them as evil!"

Basically, the author is th e person ignoring I dunno pick, US / UK / France / China (I see you, tankies) / Russia's monstrous acts so they can reframe their "superior" group as heroes.

But as a non-human tiefling, I'm probs biased.

@tiefling@bardicperspiration.club there are so many icky plot points in those books, and from the earliest stages

The main character was declared a hero at birth
He’s rich rich
He has never trained in the arts, in fact he wasn’t even aware of them
After the story starts, he still doesn’t train
He just has lots of lots of untapped raw power
All because he’s from a legacy family

On the other hand, one other character, who is also from a legacy family, can do the most despicable things and not face any consequences, in fact I believe he’s eventually presented as a hero as well?

@tiefling@bardicperspiration.club I just discovered this YouTube channel that pokes holes in movie plots and it’s great

@tiefling@bardicperspiration.club I love (/s) how they adopted the author’s ethics to cast the actors

The actor portraying the non-magical bully eventually got fitter, so they almost recast him

Hermione’s actress apparently had a contract clause forbidding her from changing anything with her hairstyle for the entire span (that’s 10 years for 8 movies?); I guess they didn’t know about wigs and it was easier to traumatize this kid for her entire personality seeking phase through to adulthood
