These theatrical announcements mislead the public, demobilize genuine support for Ukraine, and hide real inaction behind symbolic gestures.

Democracies—led by a NATO coalition of the willing—must reject showmanship and demand substantive statecraft: large-scale, game-changing aid; enforced sanctions; leaders risking political capital; and fewer headline-driven stunts to end Putin’s ability to wage war and bring the ICC-indicted war criminal to justice. Only then can Russia be forced into peace.
