Hi, friends.
I wrote an article on being a Mastodon moderator. I talk about the process, our mental health, the challenges of mutual aid, and more.
It leaves me a little vulnerable, but I think itβs an important story to tell.
If you like it, boosts are welcomed. If you have questions, feel free to reach out.

@markwyner@mas.to thank you!
"First off, I believe in mutual aid. I donβt trust wealthy people or government systems to inherently take care of people. We need to take care of each other. Good, healthy mutual aid is a beautiful thing. This is the way."
@lpryszcz@genomic.social @markwyner@mas.to As someone whose little family has only avoided living out of our car for months with the help of generous strangers -- ones I consider dear friends, but technically strangers nonetheless -- I thank you and anyone else with moderator authority who takes the time to vett and help people in need.

This is why weβre mindful about it. Mutual aid is important. Imposters not only steal from those who give them money, but also from those who need it.
Iβm glad you were able to get help when you needed it. Life is hard. If we can help each other, we can and should.

@markwyner@mas.to @lpryszcz@genomic.social Now if I can just shake the fear that I am one of those imposters or scammers because I've had to take so much

If you truly needed it, yoi are not. I grew up on food boxes and using my jacket as a pillow. I know how it feels to have to ask folks for help. You wouldnβt ask if you didnβt need it.
