#trump needs a devout loyalist in the Secretary of Defense. #petehegseth 's incompetence is a feature, not a bug, as it ensures that Pete knows he only has that job because he is loyal. If Trump were to put a competent person in that position they might resist him because that person would know they were a qualified professional. That's a lose lose for Trump. When the time comes for expanding the abuse of the people he needs a loyalist leading the Pentagon.
