The last photo also shows an Arabic inscription whose origin & meaning are debated. One widely accepted translation—“I wrote [this] as a permanent record of my suffering; my hand will perish one day, but greatness will remain”—suggests it was carved by a Mozarab mason working on the cathedral’s construction in the 12th century.
