Back in the 90s when connecting to a BBS and creating a new account, the BBS asked for a handle. It was since that day, signing up for an account on a local BBS, I stuck with the name Kajer.
I have used my handle forever more in my online presence. Anything tied to IRL like bill pay and banks goes through a IRL email account and different domain.
I have tried REALLY hard to keep my online handle away from anything to do with IRL. Granted my opsec may not have been perfect, but I always found value in being pseudo-nonymous.
This is part of the reason I wholly reject things like phone numbers being required for in-person purchases at fast food kiosks. Why people use IRL names online is beyond me, and no good can come of this.
