Did you know that you can hide followed accounts from your home feed by adding them to a list? This means Mastodon works great as a newsreader:
1. Create a new list named “News”.
2. Set the list to “Hide these posts from home”.
3. Search for accounts to follow. You can find a lot of major news outlets by searching for profiles with “flipboard.com” in their name.
4. After you follow an account, select the action menu (three dots) from their profile page to add them to your News list.
