After using #Librewolf for a day, I've noticed two glaring issues, which are actually active choices made by the Librewolf developers:
- Librewolf always reports the user's timezone as GMT. So the websites that don't let users configure their preferred timezone and rely on the browser-provided one show wrong times (except for folks who do live in GMT). I'm yet to find a workaround for this.
- Librewolf disregards OS's light/dark mode setting, and always asks websites to render in light mode. The websites that do not support overriding this via on-screen toggles always show in light mode. I worked around this by using the DarkReader extension.
One can disable the Resist Fingerprinting option in the browser settings, and that fixes these issues. In fact, these are well-documented on their website: https://librewolf.net/docs/faq/#what-are-the-most-common-downsides-of-rfp-resist-fingerprinting
I'm going to try and find a workaround for the timezone issue using an userscript. These issues are not deal breaker, but they sure are very annoying.
#Librewolf is unable to play videos on Netflix, even after I enabled DRM and WebGL. I have no idea how to fix this.
Edit: it's a known issue: https://codeberg.org/librewolf/issues/issues/1434
I've been using #Librewolf for over three months now. I had to turn off Resist Fingerprinting setting because of the previously mentioned issues. And I now use Safari to watch all DRMed content. Other that that, it has been a pretty similar experience to Firefox. Librewolf is updated regularly to keep up with upstream features. It works fine. I'm sticking with it.
I've been on #Librewolf for almost six months now and other than the issues mentioned in the previous posts in this thread, it has been smooth sailing. I didn't even notice the latest #Firefox chat and AI related changes that people are complaining about because Librewolf disables them by default.
Since #Mozilla is trending today because of their stupid decisions regarding #Firefox, I thought I'd give another update about my moving to #Librewolf ten months ago, but sadly [happily] there is nothing to report. It's just been working rock solid. I don't see any AI things being pushed on me, just some regular security updates. No crashes, no issues, no mismanagement, no threats. It's been boring, exactly how a browser should be.
