I must remind myself that my politics aren't my identity (or at least I don't want them to be). I realized this when I noticed that, with maybe a dozen exceptions, political is what I would describe as the identity of lots of the folks I follow through Mastodon. Just about everything they post is political or politically adjacent. This isn't who I want to be. It isn't healthy, and it isn't joyful. Baseball content, jokes, funny stories, pet pics, and outdoor photography bring me joy on Mastodon. Please don't be offended if I unfollow you (if that is what you tend to post). I wish you well, but I can't stomach another four years of regularly reading about the idiocy the next administration pulls. You can kid yourself into believing that "staying informed" is essential so you can prepare. Ask the condemned man wearing a hood waiting for the bullet if he wants to know the moment when the gun will fire.
