@sk76@mastodon.ie Just wanna say that this is not necessarily an active demolition. Many buildings in East Germany in 1989 still looked like right after WW2. There was simply no money to repair them. Even in East Berlin bullet holes and grenade holes were a regular sight on old buildings. The political deciders had no love for old houses and instead preferred to build cheap new houses from precast concrete slabs.
