Why is the surface of Kuiper belt object Arrokoth red in color, when its primary component Methane Ice is generally white in appearance?
It is believed to be caused by complex organic compounds called tholins, which are produced from the photolysis of various simple organic and volatile compounds by cosmic rays and ultraviolet solar radiation.
