Nov 23, 1942 #WWII Dad "Left Mareeba. Landed at Port Moresby Maple Field. 3 hour flight in B-17. The field has improved considerable since I left. Just able to recognize it." Dad, a member of the 35th Fighter Group, 5th Air Force, returned to #NewGuinea after eloping with our Mom in #Australia. Dad disobeyed orders and went AWOL after receiving leave.
