“software can’t just ignore laws it doesn’t like” it literally can. corporations do it constantly and I really doubt any of them will drop linux if it doesn’t comply with a set of godawful fascist age verification laws. historically one of the forms of pushback against unjust laws is to show some basic fucking solidarity and do nothing to assist in their enforcement because it really isn’t practical to sue everybody, but unfortunately solidarity is alien to most of these computer fuckers

here’s a worked example of why nobody believes firefox’s AI kill switch will be anything but a marketing wedge

these showed up in my File menu, displacing the New Private Window item and fucking up my muscle memory, in spite of having browser.ml.enabled set to false. the setting for this is a new nonsensically named option, extensions.ml.enabled. a merry fuck you to the guys who showed up in my replies telling me to just disable the config flag I already disabled months ago.

a few people have come here to advertise for their own projects. I don’t usually reply either because I’m already keeping tabs on their work or I feel nothing for it and can’t muster a reply.

some jackass came in here to advertise for a grift that’s very coy about how it requires you to spend ethereum to make a full-fledged account. the docs try to hide this and also say there’s non-cryptocurrency alternatives and that isn’t true.

@davidgerard@circumstances.run in an unsurprising update for those familiar with how Proton operates, *they silently rewrote their monorepo’s history to purge .cursor and hide that they were vibe coding*: https://github.com/ProtonMail/WebClients/tree/2a5e2ad4db0c84f39050bf2353c944a96d38e07f

given the utter lack of communication from Proton on this, I can only guess they’ve extracted .cursor into an external repository and continue to use it out of sight of the public
