On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder is a valuable thing to have by your side in these times of increasing fascism.

Each chapter begins with a short bit of advice as it's title, followed by a sentence or two on it's potential importance. The rest of the chapter provides concrete historical examples.

Each chapter is short, and the book is only 126 pages. Possibly the most valuable thing that you could ever read.

I'm going to be posting the first page of each chapter, because of how important I think it is to share these ideas. Please boost if you feel them useful.

I urge you to read this essay. It's the last one in a collection of essays I've been reading by Stuart Hall, the brilliant marxist cultural theorist active in the U.K. from the 1960s through 2014.

The Great Moving Right Show describes the changing political, economic and social climate in Great Britain in the 1970s which gave rise to Margaret Thatcher.

As I've been reading it, the parallels to the rise of Trump and his rightwing cronies in the U.S. were profound. It seems that the people at Black Agenda Report felt the same way.

A long essay, very worth your time.

I think Thatcherism was a blueprint for the GOP.

Figured that I should write a short bio, so here goes.

Married, 2 dogs and a cat. In
#SanFrancisco since β€˜05. D.C. native.

Left my IT career in 2014. Always did art from time to time, now it’s quite often. Experimental / avant-garde electronic music, traditional & experimental film / alt-process photography, poetry.

During my first five months here, most of my posts have been about, in no particular order,
#synths, #experimentalMusic, #wine and #baseball, though that’s not an exhaustive list of my interests.

Likes: books, animals (incl but not limited to
#dogs and #cats), very left political & societal views (incl #socialism), in-depth well-written commentary on same, wine, music, friendly people, gardening, baseball (Giants fan), #TwinPeaks & all things Lynch.

Thanks for reading!

So, the orange asshole is taking over Washington, D.C.'s police department and activating 800 members of the National Guard 'in the hopes of reducing crime', even as city officials stressed crime is already falling in the nation’s capital.

Of course he doesn't offer any specific remedies for the city's issues.

This is simply an excuse to exercise authoritarianism.

He supposedly is limited by statute to conduct this maneuver for 30 days. I'm sure he'll find a way to extend it.

An analysis of the orange one and how his movement compared to classic fascism at the beginning of his first term, with addenda to bring it up to date. An excellent read.
