So I trundled out the foundry furnace, set up the propane, and put the crucible in. Sometimes it's hard to get this homemade burner to fire. It needs a diverging cone at the end to hold the flame better. Plus I had low gas pressure because the propane was approximately freezing. But it did start.

It snowed last night but we had a cloudless sky so it was obviously going to melt and then I'd have slightly wet ground and cold air, about the best conditions for possibly starting a brush fire.

For Christmas, @theantlady@arthropod.social sent us her ant zine, and it is so cool.

You can tell it's winter because the desert roses are dormant.
Er wait.
They've been doing this for months. Little weirdos.

I'm making a small crusher for processing used plaster after mold burnout and smashing it back down to near powder, because a burnout sequence is sufficient to dehydrate it so I can reuse it. I'm calling it Grindr. These are slightly conic because if it works I'm going to use them as sand casting forms and remake them in aluminum. Designed in #freecad printed in PLA for prototyping.

Any y'all have recommendations for micro-sd cards? I've had multiple failures for the one I use in the 3d printer, where the printer can't see them or freezes half way through the print. The only one that's consistently performed well is a samsung evo that came in a helmet cam I bought a couple years ago.

Anyone have any ideas?

Here's my latest iteration of the fuel injection manifold casting. 0-5% infill in undyed PLA with my attempt at a low turbulence sprue/runner system. The runner is over length to trap slag and the block on the top is a shrinkage riser. I'll pour investment this afternoon and maybe it'll be ready to cast on Sunday.

Well this is better. There were some really deep scratches because a previous owner didn't know to not use steel blades on aluminum. I used grinding compound on glass to get this cleaner and flat. It still has some divots.
