You don't need superspy-level OPSEC in order to protest fascism. But protest does involve risk. My goal when I teach people about digital privacy/security is to make sure that people understand what risks they're taking so they can make appropriate mitigations while still accomplishing their goals.

On This Day, 25 January 1995, Eric Cantona performed his famous Kung-Fu kick on nazi Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons. Simmons already had convictions for violent assault and was a BNP and NF supporter.
Cantona has since said his only regret was not hitting him harder.

Once upon a time, I was very active on MySpace and then Facebook. Then things got really shitty, so I quit and joined BlueSky.

I felt horrible, like the smallest bit of the code, unrecognized, shouting into the void for robots and scammers. But it a good place, right? And then they banned trans people while bringing in the authoritarians.

So, I thought all social media is bad, and I should try and get a website going where I could shout at the void on my own space.

I came across @_elena@mastodon.social and started playing around with PeerTube. I saw @firesidefedi@btfree.social talking about exciting things, connecting with real people, and rebuilding that good time I used to have being online.

It was exciting, but I wasn't sure. And then @TIBtv@tv.theindiebeat.fm came on, and I was blown away. My people! There they are!

I hope other people like me quit lurking quietly and join in. It's fantastic here on the #fediverse

This is going to sound a bit weird, but it might be a good idea to purchase a shortwave radio if you haven't got one already. They're quite cheap and small, you can buy one and store it long term just in case.

Shortwave is the only way to receive news and information internationally without relying on the internet or satellite. It might be a useful fallback to receive news from the outside world if your country's media and internet are ever restricted or closed down.

If you've never used one, it's like a normal radio but the frequencies reach around the world. Every country used to have its own station.
