I'm Rick O. I live in the #PNW. Professionally, I'm a security researcher with previous experience as a penetration tester. Most of my hobbies are related to computers and technology in some way. I like to break things or build things to help people break things. #Privacy is important to me.

I'm hoping to be part of an active community of other #hackers doing fun things because we can.

I also enjoy playing #guitar, good stories, #CrossFit, and being a #dad.

@drahardja@sfba.social @kajer@infosec.exchange Our police department installed them without consulting our police commission. So we are now trying to stop them from putting in more and ideally removing the rest. Ultimate goal would be having these systems prohibited by local laws.

The topic came up at our local defcon meetup group where a few like-minded folks started talking. Also some folks on the local subreddit, also some other activists groups. Then we started converging to form a new group to focus on this issue.

We have a city council meeting coming up and I want to see it packed with anti flock people. This issue is heating up in our town which is exactly what we need.

I think flock may have some camera models that are dumb and just feed video directly into the compute box. It seems like the box connects to up to four cameras at a time. I'm guessing this just does all the same processing that a Falcon camera does, but for four streams at a time. It has at 256gb disk though, which seems excessive.

Anyone know what the #flock #ALPR compute box does? Does it run the same Android software as the Falcon camera model?

I've been researching the #flock #ALPR system and trying to figure out what this "compute box" actually is. So far there's an EBay listing that makes it sound like it's purpose is storage. But I'm skeptical about that since it's called "compute box" and not "storage box".
