I want to install a cloud file server, with digital ocean bucket for storage and a photo cloud server that works with Android on Debian or Ubuntu and will have a couple users to replace Google Drive and MS OneDrive, etc. Go fully #selfHosting

Any suggestions? I have no experience in Docker, so would prefer to stay away from docker as I would be entering as a newbie.

The servers I can use is one of these:

1) Ubuntu 22.04 Webuzo (Cpanel)(64-bit),12 GB,240 GB, Apache (also has NGINX), runs ElasticSearch (for Mastodon), email server, web hosting static and low use/ low-resource intensive php application , and DNS

2) Debian 11 blank (64-bit), 6 GB, 120 GB, currently operating Mastodon with DigitalOcean bucket #selfhost

I can't wipe my servers and start fresh with something.

As a self-hosting Mastodon instance, with just a couple user accounts, I wished there was a "preview card" creating mode that recognized when any user was viewing a timeline, whether home, a list, federated, etc, and ONLY created link previews when that was occurring. Also, if it is not already done, wished it would save link data in the database for previews created and when any user shared that link in a new post, reply, etc, it would search the database for the preview image and data without doing it again. I'm not sure if Mastodon already does this or not.

I'm getting gigabytes of images and making untold server calls to other websites for content my instance will never see yet it retains it.

With my Parkinson's, I only do follow backs at certain times, & usually in bulk

What this does is increase my timeline activity &my old-timers, people I followed for a long time, and interact with, get lost in the new hustle and bustle of the timeline

I try to break it down to lists, so, If I haven't interacted this could be why. Send me a mention or a ping and I'll get you sorted to the correct placement in my Fediverse world

I do enjoy the new follow content & someday, you'll be old-timers.

MEET PAUL CHAMBERS Paul Chambers, 41, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s plus syndrome in June 2012, which over time has affected his speech and his ability to swallow. For Paul his troubles with swallowing began in mid-2011 when he started getting aspiration pneumonia, which happens when food and liquid make their way into the lungs rather than down the esophagus and into the stomach. A barium swallow test (a medical imaging procedure used to examine the upper gastrointestinal tract) revealed that Paul had been experiencing some swallowing difficulties. In an attempt to alleviate these symptoms, Paul began to work with a speech therapist to strengthen his throat muscles. By late February 2012, the tricks and tools Paul had learned in speech therapy no longer worked. Paul’s hiatal bone reflexes and gag reflexes were completely gone and every time Paul swallowed he couldn’t be sure food and liquids, including saliva, would not get into his lungs. A new modified barium test showed that his swallowing was significantly worse. “At this time, the doctors wanted to take measures early on with a nasogastric (NG) tube or even a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube, but I refused because I assumed the feeding tube was merely a bandage to prevent a quicker death,” said Paul.
