The place in Ottawa was like the Troubadour in London. Carleton Univ's "Rooster's Coffeehouse" was part of the culture of the time too, though that had faded by my time in the early 80s. Still, liked to spend time there.

Visited Roosters a few years ago while on campus for some collaborative work and was disappointed how they obliterated the decor with much white, character-free drywall, crap furniture.

The location of Le Hibou on Sussex today vs in its heyday.

Looks vacant these days.I think these shops are owned and managed by the NCC, and i've heard anecdotally that they are horrible landlords. A far cry from Le Hibou's time when they were given discounted rent to encourage the arts scene.

A bit of a rabbit hole of reading on local #Ottawa music history this morning. Well before my time was Le Hibou Coffeeshop on Sussex Dr. where big names performed in classic coffeehouse culture performances. Many big names of late sixties played there.

Here's Jimi Hendrix, who was hanging out in Ottawa then. He notes in his diary entry for the day says "Went down to the little club to see Joni - fantastic girl with heaven words."

I'm making an apple crumble today, like some others on here. Seems a good autumn activity.

I think we called it an apple crisp as a kid.

If you make, eat, or admire such dessert items, which term is more traditional for you or your family?

Big grocery shop this morning, being out of lots of things, so hit up three stores trying to get everything.

Strangely after seeing Maseca corn masa everywhere for ages, suddenly we can find it nowhere. It used to be a thing found in only little specialty Latino shops, but then was in regular supermarkets widely.

Maybe there's a supply shortage with US Thanksgiving on? Do people make lots of tortillas this weekend?

Any other Ottawa locals have a power drop at 8am?

Weird, we don't usually get power outages, but everything went out and I simultaneously heard a big thump outside.

Power came back in immediately. Makes me wonder if a transformer blew up locally or some construction nearby hit a wire or something.

Oh no, Environment Canada is changing to alert colour levels, which sounds like the UK approach.

Problem they probably haven't thought through, is that the language is a bit different here! We've had a good laugh at the UK warnings that proclaim "Yellow Snow Warning" which means a very specific and funny thing to Canadians.

How will they avoid the same language here?

Canadians seeing a chart like this would cancel travel plans: "Ew, let's stay home."

Sunset tonight is at 4:24 pm for Ottawa.

Cloudy just now too, so it looks like it's already packing up its desk.
