Okay, here's a New Year's resolution: listen to at least one new album a day for 365 days. Ideally, something from Bandcamp so I can link to it.
Here's January 1st, I've listened to this a dozen times since I bought it last month.
"The Sunset Violent is the fourth studio album by English band Mount Kimbie, released on 5 April 2024 by Warp Records. The album is Mount Kimbie's first as a quartet, and also features contributions to two tracks by King Krule. It was written and recorded in Yucca Valley, California, and finished in London. The Sunset Violent is an indie rock album, a significant departure from their prior electronic style."

"In 2016, Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis was offered the opportunity of a lifetime: a two-day session working with the great drummer Tony Allen, who he admired intensely for his influential, multi-genre work with the likes of Fela Kuti, SΓ©bastien Tellier and Jeff Mills.
The result is the five-track EP, βLagos Paris Londonβ,"

I watched Akira Kurosawaβs first movie for the first time, Sanjuro Sugata. Itβs from 1943 and was censored by the Imperial government at the time.
Sanjuro Sugata is a very Akira Kurosawa film. Itβs a coming of age film told with empathy and caring.
Thereβs long telephoto shots. Thereβs wind-whipped grass tossing on a mountainside. Thereβs melodramatic music. Thereβs static shots of clouds in the sky. Thereβs duels that start with men staring each other down, poised and locked in mortal combat between their eyes before bursting into action.
Takashi Shimura, one of my favorite actors who appeared in 21 of Akira Kurosawa's 30 films is here from the start. Unexpected delight!
