New blog post! I wrote about one of the weirdest CDs in my collection - a CD single with a few lo-fi music videos and the distinct vibes that this is the leftover wreckage of what was supposed to be a much bigger project that never came to pass.

New blog post! I've been using enthusiast-developed lower-level CD reading techniques for awhile, and I think institutional archivists would benefit from trying them out. Wrote up a summary of what it is, how it works, and how it could be useful for you.

Every time I see a news story about Americans trying to be more welcoming to bring Canadian tourists back, I just think about how they don't get it. People don't feel safe at the border! People are reading the news stories and are afraid of being grilled, arrested, sent to jail, because someone at the border doesn't like them or has a quota to fill. You can't say "oh, it's fine, we love Canadians" - people here read the front page news stories about people for whom it wasn't fine.

Long shot, but do I know anyone who might get some use out of a standalone comb filter? Iβve got a Kramer FC-10D I donβt use anymore. Composite in, S-video out, PAL/NTSC compatible. I believe it can transcode S-video to composite as well.
Between Tim Cook's embarrassing sucking up to Trump, the impending liquid glass disaster, and how good Linux gaming has finally gotten, I wonder if I'm going to end up actually switching back to Linux in a few years. Guess we'll see where things goβ¦

I'm not sure why the Amiga version of Bomberman has this totally unique demoscene intro-style track, but I'm into it https://youtu.be/_ZgDfdxi4Fk
Any dist/cargo-dist users interested in working on Codeberg support? I'd love to get a second CI system in there.

I keep seeing people be confused or even aggressive about how worried some Mastodon users are about quote posts, but I can actually explain it pretty simply: some people were on Twitter in 2014-2015 and were on the receiving end of the world's worst harassment A/B test. So I don't think it's surprising those people ended up permanently associating the quote post feature with that.
BTW I don't personally expect the worst from Mastodon's implementation, so don't necessarily take this as personal pessimism. Just saying that if you see some people who seem very concerned about it, they're not being irrational. They may just have had different personal experiences than you.
