Uusliberalismi on poliittinen aate jota ryhtyivät toteuttamaan Britannian pääministeri Margaret Thatcher ja Yhdysvaltojen presidentti Ronald Reagan 1980-luvulla. Uusliberalismin ydinajatus on, että kaiken politiikan tavoitteena pitää olla mahdollisimman suuri talouskasvu, ja talouskasvua saadaan aikaiseksi karsimalla valtion tehtäviä, purkamalla kaikenlaista sääntelyä, ja laskemalla etenkin varakkaiden verotusta.

I gave my last lecture of the year on Monday, which means my teaching duties for 2023 are nearly over.
I've now taught the first course of history in our high school curriculum for three spring terms in a row now. It covers the social and economic history of the planet, and because I'm teaching people who aren't likely to be interested in history for its own sake, I've tried to emphasize the "how we got here" aspect.
I'd like to talk a little bit about how profoundly that's radicalized me.
I wrote a thing for my blog on some of the most horrible years of my life: as a PhD student at the University of Helsinki. It felt therapeutical to write, and I'm very, very happy that it's behind me.

I have a social media philosophy that's quite simple.
Nobody has to read anything I post. Nobody needs to follow me, anyone can block or mute me. I'm not going to be obnoxious or vulgar for the sake of it, but I'm also not really trying to persuade anyone. Maybe it's possible to change minds through constructive dialogue, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the person you want for that.
I'm on here so I can vent about things I care about, and no-one is under any obligation to listen to any of it.

Mitäs sitä sanoisi. 40v uskontotieteilijä, sotahistorian tutkija ja entinen freelance-toimittaja maanpuolustusalalta, aikuisopettaja, nykyään videopelihommissa. Harrastuksina lukeminen ja pienoismalli- sekä figupelihommat.
En oikeastaan edes haluaisi olla kiinnostunut yhteiskunnallisista asioista, mutta ilmastokriisin ja fasismin nousun keskellä tuntuu moraalittomalta vaieta. Me tarvitaan uusia tapoja ajatella politiikkaa ja taloutta, ennen kuin käy huonosti. Niistä lähinnä huutelen.
