So, been thinking about the "W" social media thing. The "European alternative to X". Some kind of Euro corporate tech bro thing. But it's a 'fork' of the #Bluesky code. Currently kind of on Bsky's AT Proto network, but that future is unclear. Bluesky PBC seems to hate it. They claim to be 'decentralized' 🤷
Why do we need such nonsense when the Fediverse is a proven public social media network with thousands of decentralized instances up and running all over the world including all over Europe.
Really interesting things afoot in social media. It seems like "W", a newly announced "European alternative to X" is actually a fork of the Bluesky code, and is, at least for now, kind of part of the Bluesky AT Proto network. (Thanks to @quillmatiq@mastodon.social for the explainer.)
And, apparently #Bluesky board member @mmasnick@mastodon.social really doesn't like the idea.
It will be fascinating to see how this develops.

OK, but wondering if you click on a link in the web app, does it then fire off your default browser including any plug-ins? So that would be fine. Or is it some default browser without the plugins?
@FediTips@social.growyourown.services
No experience with web apps, but just want to say that simply using the web interface (browsing to the instance web address) does everything and is a very good experience. Have never found the need for anything else.
You can save the shortcut link to your desktop (PC) or homescreen (mobile) and access your account with one clip.
Nothing against web apps, but this works just fine, and always the latest software. KISS principle.
Guidance for #Bluesky users migrating to Mastodon.
It's super easy to get up and running.
Since we're really decentralized you will need to pick a server. Choose the 'mother ship' https://mastodon.social/ or any other quality instance like https://mstdn.social/ or https://hachyderm.io/ You really can't go wrong, and you can change later. More here:

Great exchanges of perspectives. Gets into the fundamental differences in both technology and philosophy between the two social media networks.
Yesterday there where many articles about how we can no longer trust the government's CPI (inflation) data. Today the CPI data came in much better than expected, and Wall Street rallied big time. It can only follow that Wall Street likes the fact that the books are now cooked. Lots of good economic news ahead!
Shudder... Just clicked on a Threads link and scrolled down a bit. The potty mouths on those folks. And the anger. Hooo boy. As bad as Twitter ever was. We are very fortunate here to have mostly civil discourse.
Great @wdlindsy@toad.social thread this morning on this Kennedy mRNA vaccine catastrophe

Let's take a quick look at gerrymandering in the US. The Gerrymander Project currently publishes this analysis https://gerrymander.princeton.edu/. What we see is that GOP states are NOW MUCH MORE gerrymandered than Dem states. This means that there is MUCH MORE POTENTIAL for shifting seats in Dem states. TX is trying to swing 5 of 13. CA could easily swing 5 of 9 GOP held seats. NY 5 of 11. MN 2 of 4. MI maybe 3 of 6. They wanna play gerrymander. Let's play.
