wwhiny about personal preference, This is not a request for anyone to change

I hate that we've got to a place where auto-deleting messages is reasonable and so common

I hate that because I'll forget to reach out to people. I forget what I've told them before. Anyone with whom I don't chat often will be lost in the infinite history of contacts with empty chats, and that is just a barrier I have the hardest time getting over.

I understand perfectly why people do that, but fuck does that feel bad because I know I will have a hard time reaching out in the future....

So, do you remember the fictional city I worked on during Inktober? Well I finally got around making a map! :)

I wanted to do for
literally months, but it wasn’t so bad in the end!

You can learn more about it in today’s newsletter:

@alternativeto@mas.to Here's an alt-text description of the image:

The image is a promotional graphic for a software called WinBoat, designed to run Windows applications on Linux. The background is a gradient of blue shades. A mock-up of a WinBoat window is centered, displaying a simulated Windows 11 Pro desktop environment with a blue wave logo as the desktop background. On the left side of the window is a vertical menu with options including "Home", "Apps", and "Configuration". Three circular progress indicators are displayed below these options, showing CPU usage at 25%, RAM usage at 8%, and Disk usage at 68%.

The text in the image reads: "Seamlessly runs Windows applications on Linux through an intuitive interface, supporting native OS-level windo…", "WinBoat", "Free Open Source (MIT)", "Compatibility Layer Tool Virtualization Tool Linux Docker", "Romania EU Based", and "Alternative to VirtualBox and Wine". There is a blue wave icon present in the center of the image, and a small icon of the Romanian flag is displayed next to the country's name. The top of the graphic contains the phrase "Run Windows apps on Linux with seamless integration".

Since #Mozilla is trending today because of their stupid decisions regarding #Firefox, I thought I'd give another update about my moving to #Librewolf ten months ago, but sadly [happily] there is nothing to report. It's just been working rock solid. I don't see any AI things being pushed on me, just some regular security updates. No crashes, no issues, no mismanagement, no threats. It's been boring, exactly how a browser should be.

I guess it's time for everyone to start freezing their Firefox versions and not updating (which you can do on a DIY basis through an 'enterprise' policy). I can't believe I'm saying that, automatic browser updates were a great improvement for practical web security, but here we are with Mozilla blowing off their entire lower torso.

Or maybe switch to a Firefox fork, if there's a good trustworthy up to date one.
