Science was going to be a problem for religion unless you define away religion. It’s not cherry-picking to ask about scopes and Galileo. And There are modern thinkers very concerned with metaphysics (Derrida). This all seems replay of Calvin is very liberal tho we won’t talk about his most famous opinion.

If you define religion as subjectivity you don’t have to answer questions science poses to the story. You could have some kind of deism.

Robinson in Absence of mind seems to be arguing modern atheism is based on flawed analogy with science and ignores mind, which is stand in for religion (self = soul). It’s anti humanistic and anthropocentric. Duh. Strawmen like rorty and pinker, to be fair she quotes Russell a lot. I don’t know what mind is, some unmediated thought, access to thought itself, whatever that is.
