I probably should do an #introduction by now, huh?
Alright, so, hi! My name is Kevin and I'm a security engineer from #LongIsland, NY working at a large ecommerce company. I've gotten to touch a little bit of everything in that role, such as application security, third-party risk, phishing training, security policy, etc. just to name a few. It's given me a pretty good generalist background. Currently, I'm looking to focus on growing my expertise in security architecture.
I am particularly passionate about creating security solutions that don't make people hate the security team. :) It's easy to throw up a solution that's secure without regard to usability; it's hard to create something that is both secure AND user friendly. Solving that puzzle scratches my brain in a particular way, and the reward of making everyones' lives easier sure helps too! I think #infosec overall could use some more mindfulness about what it's like for the humans who have to deal with it... Perhaps we could call it Human Oriented Security?
Outside of security, my nerdiness extends into the kitchen -- I love all things food and drink. Give me an opportunity to try a new dish or cuisine and I'll have a great time! Likewise, I enjoy learning new recipes and take pride in my #cooking. As of late, I've been focusing learning more about on the wonderful dishes of the Indian subcontinent (so if you have any recipes, feel free to drop me some!). On the beverage side of things, I appreciate quality coffee, tea, wine, beer, etc but I don't get too deep into any of them.
Otherwise, I enjoy video games, movies, books, and TV shows, especially if they're sci-fi. My backlog just keeps growing though, so it's a constant struggle to actually enjoy it all! 😅
If any of that sounds interesting to you, you're welcome to follow! I think we've got a wonderful community forming here, and I'm really eager to be a part of it.
See you around!
It's crazy that M365 Copilot still can't create a meeting by itself.
Is today the national day of traffic or some shit wtf
Helped a coworker troubleshoot the fact that new Outlook was inexplicably wrapping the contents of a received .txt file in HTML tags, and screwing up the line endings. Only happened in the new version. Classic, no problem.
My Chemical Romance was incredible last night. God, I can't stop listening to them now. I get why people go to the second day of a tour stop now!!
It's Friday and apparently my code's got ghosts. I'm done for the week.
I noticed my bottom desk drawer wouldn't close all the way. Okay, hmm. Something fell down and is blocking it. Turned out it was a gift card I was looking for ages ago! Nice!
