This outstanding article related to #NativePlants has many useful points for preparing for the next growing season and improving the #environment in general. I'll pull out some main ideas in a threaded series this week.

First up: Insects are the primary conduits for energy to get from plants to animals. And lowly caterpillars turn out to be the most important.

Our job, gardeners, is to plant more caterpillar food!

In a backyard setting, a small pond will be very beneficial to #wildlife. Here's the hand-dug bi-level pond in my garden. The upper section is shallow for animals to bathe and drink: bees, birds, bunnies. The lower section is wider (<4.5 feet) deeper (<3 feet). #Frogs in my area prefer small quiet ponds.

The special black liner can be purchased, seen here because deer, my nemesis, knocked many rocks off.

What do owners do for their lonely and bored parrots, which are social animals? Give them tech to video call other parrots, of course.

Parrots were taught how to make video calls to other parrots. During free call time over a period of two months, they "came alive". Some showed each other their toys. Some developed best friends.
