A new, bigger #introduction
Hi, I'm Juhis, a #community builder, tech #educator, technical #writer and a #publicspeaker. And a #dreamer, an #adventurer, #boardgame enthusiast and dancer at heart.
I write a weekly blog at https://hamatti.org, organize @turkufrontend@tivia.social, organize #FutureFrontend conference (https://futurefrontend.com/) & run #SyntaxError newsletter (https://www.syntaxerror.tech/).
I want to help people build a better world through #technology: https://hamatti.org/posts/why-i-do-what-i-do/

I'm all over the moon. The post arrived and with it, my Potluck deck is now a physical reality.
Potluck is a semi-universal deck designed by me that fits into a pocket and plays all sorts of amazing games – perfect for quick breaks at work, for making new friends when traveling and passing time when waiting for things.
I've written about it more in detail on my website: https://hamatti.org/tabletop/potluck/

After I binge watched first 4 seasons of Smallville during my summer holiday, it's hard to see anyone other but Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor.
The combination of great writing and great acting made that Lex a truly incredible one.
Nicholas Hoult might be a good actor but I may have to rewatch the new Superman after I've forgotten about Rosenbaum.

Through the grapevine, I discovered an Austrian band Mountain Crew that has really catchy tunes.
So far, my favourite has been Donnerwetter.

I find myself writing a new script every year as the hockey season starts to create a Google Calendar compatible CSV for my home team's home games.
Partially because I forget I had them earlier and partially because the format how they are shared changes often with website updates.
Today I wrote a quick Python script to do that for my team TUTO Hockey. Now I know how to plan the rest of my life until February.

I've been digging deeper into the rabbit hole of home automation bit by bit and I really like the way Home Assistant separates triggers/inputs and actions/outputs in a way that I can use any HA connected device to control any other HA connected device.
I added new functionality to my Hue Light Switch as I can now start my gaming setup with one long press (with a separate night mode!).

I read today people discussing differences in "emotional intelligence" of gen AI models and I think we've gone too far in anthropomorphising these models.
They have neither emotions nor intelligence, just an illusion of it.

Tuesdays have become my least favourite day of the week due to some recurring stressors.
That said, I agree that for a beginner, it can be more overwhelming to get started than it was before.
I love building web frontends for hobby projects with vanilla Javascript. No build processes, no frameworks, just modern Javascript with HTML and CSS.
And when it comes to jQuery, I think it's wonderful that we don't need it anymore. Browsers have caught up with the language in a way that there's way less need for such a "polyfill" to make the code work for all browsers.
Simplifies!
While I agree with the general sentiment that our de facto "default" stack of building things on the web has gotten bit too complex, all the other stuff is still there.
We can write HTML, vanilla Javascript and CSS and push them on a server and they work — even better than they used to do because the languages and browser support has improved.
We can write simple PHP and deploy that and it will still work just like before.
Simplicity is still there, if you choose it.
