Hey, I should introduce myself! I'm Angus (he) or Andrea (she), depending on the situation. I study language (like changes in French syntax) and make things with computers (like language corpora and web applications). I spend time advocating respect for diverse gender expression and safer, more sustainable transportation. I have a great family, including some cats. I like singing and hiking!

Welcome to everyone who's just joining or rejoining Mastodon!

Here's your periodic notice that it is statistically impossible to get a representative sample with a Mastodon poll. The most reliable thing you can find out are absolute numbers ("34 people think Aaron Neville is underrated!").

Please feel free to create, vote in and boost polls for fun. But please don't mislead anyone into thinking that boosting will achieve a "better sample size." It will not!

Periodic reminder:

Most transgender people don't get any body modifications at all.

We don't actually know how many poeple regret transgender-related actions, including body modifications, for a whole host of reasons.

Even if the number of people who regret body mods is small, that's no reason to dismiss it.

We can support trans people who choose to get body mods AND those who choose not to, AND those who get them and regret it.

Please don't share dismissive stats.
