You're looking a view taken half way across a bridge of a river, marshlands and faintly visible mountains beyond. There are big low lying fluffy white clouds overhead that are reflected in the water, which is crystal calm. The mountains in the distance are shrouded by mist because they're demure and don't need to be flashy. We know they're there. They're always there. The marshland is brownish and silty but very pretty... not at all like the Dead Marshes in Lord of the Rings, but maybe a little reminiscent. And there is also a ridge of pine forest far in the distance to the right, pointing at the mountains so you don't forget they're there. The vibe is tranquil. This scene smells like salt water, fuggy greenery and a little bit of sulfur of decaying plant things. It sounds like distant crashing waves and evening birdsong. 6e8c100b0c3b4528.jpeg You're looking at a typical Kiwi scene here of a picnic table and bench chairs surrounded by the usual suspects. There's grass, a flax plant with big pointy leaves, scrub... and a brown woodhen looking like it most definitely hasn't been thwarted, standing with its back to the table, which incidentally holds a red wool plaid picnic blanket. This blanket was recently in this bird's possession and it will get it back... moments later in fact. The bird is about the size of a chicken. The blanket is the size of a single bed blanket. This bird is a tiny blanket stealing dinosaur. The sounds in this picture are of silent bird sneakiness, nearby waves crashing and a family laughing and shrieking as they run into the sea. The smell is petrichor after recent rain and the sea. 2e7d6b666db51f38.jpeg The image is the cover of Tiny Moments of Joy: Spotted on Market Day in Aotearoa New Zealand. It's a deep pink colour with a white and orange serif font. There is a border of pale ferns and the vibe is of calm and chill, maybe invoking the desire for a cosy chair and a cup of your favourite beverage... and hopefully ca a2a5f15316ab3ed1.jpg The second image is of the inside of a book, propped open at the middle by a ceramic red love heart and a bunch of stones that were found on a beach in Golden Bay a few months ago. I knew they'd come in handy. Rocks are the best souvenirs. The book's interior is white paper with black writing, centred with a vignette per page. Looking at this picture, you now know that this is not an illustrated book, the words draw the pictures, but you get the impression that you will not need pictures because you will enjoy these words very much.
