Well, it happened. At the end of May, I was laid off - the non-profit I was at laid off about a third of their staff, and I was among them.

I've spent the last couple weeks thinking and planning. People have asked me, repeatedly, "what do you want to do?" and I always struggle with the answer.

From the outside, I have what looks like a disparate -- even scattered -- skill set.

For these docs, I created two versions: a short version that just gives sequence and steps, and a longer version that provides more details and background.

The process can be completed in around 30-45 minutes.

The short version:

The full version:
https://www.funnymonkey.com/2025/02/setting-up-a-raspberry-pi-as-a-travel-router-using-raspap-full-documentation/

The full version includes an appendix on hardware, including links to more information on wireless network adapters in Linux.

Because wireless network adapters in Linux.

My thoughts and reactions to AI Snake Oil (and thoughts and reactions on how AI fits into the broader context of aggressively hyped tech) is available here:

This was a personal project, and it was useful for me to clarify my thoughts, and I'm sharing it out in the hope that someone else finds it useful as well!

And if you think I've missed something, let me know!

Migrated over from mastodon.social - interested in/talk about privacy, security, tech, education, food, research, testing (both edu and technical), misinformation, and other stuff, in any order.

I occasionally write code, even though i probably shouldn't.

I'm also interested in big problems and new and interesting mistakes.

How about billions of people can keep their old pictures and a few thousand oligarchs give up their private planes?
