People say stuff like "you don't miss old games you miss being young and having lots of time to spend on relatively few games" a lot and this completely overlooks the difference in friction in game design between say, 1995 and 2025
Sometimes friction is enjoyable. This can be seen in series like Dark Souls. But nowadays unless your studio name is From, your game will not be given the benefit of the doubt on deliberate friction in game design
If you think covid "was 5 years ago" and "reasonable people just get vaccinated* and don't worry about it" and "asking people to mask makes you a lunatic" then you will definitely be catching a block
Also just so you know, this kinda attitude seems pretty unpopular on fedi, actually
*current vaccines have a coin toss of preventing infection which goes to basically zero after a few months
Self hosting? Man I can't even find enough energy to do the things I need to to literally stay alive

its fucked up that the main way to survive as a creative person nowadays is to basically style yourself into an internet celebrity
i like blogging but i don't like how you just kinda put something out into the aether and there's no way to gauge its effects on anyone beyond the handful of comments you get
i'm sure lots of people will be like "your need for engagement was instilled in you by capitalism" but i need people to understand that it's not actually normal for human beings to create things and then throw them into an impenetrable hole where they can never see what effect those things have on others
used to be when people created stuff they could, you know, look physically at the people engaging with that stuff because they would often be in the room with them
