On a whim, I walked up a small hillside to see the trees at the top, and look what I found!

A thick crusty tree trunk in the sun, dotted with bits of lichen, and with some tiny mushrooms growing out of a deep crack. They are small capped mushrooms with slender stems, wilted and frozen. One is frozen sideways in a way that gives us a view of the gills.

I'm super happy that it's sunny on this work-from-home day for me. I was able to skip out for a nice walk, and I can make up the work later.

A snowy path curves through a field. The sun is bright in a hazy sky, and there are bare tree silhouettes in the distance. This is an asphalt path that was cleared after one snow storm, but not after the most recent snow storm. So we can see clearly where the path is, without a single trace of asphalt. The fresh and drifted snow slope down from the plowed mounds on the sides.

A big chunk of ice appears to have cracked on the roof right over my head just now, with an extremely loud bang. I jumped and shouted "Jesus fucking Christ!" My coworkers came running. They had also heard it from downstairs and five offices away.

Yesterday felt like Saturday and I'm restraining myself from doing a silent Sunday post today. Instead, I offer this rainbow question mark in the sky. Which I didn't see until I reviewed my photos later. The sun was so bright, I was taking photos blindly, hoping something would come out.

The sun is bright in the sky, just above some cedars and just below a strangely shaped cloud. The sun forms a rainbow over the cloud, like the top part of a question mark, with the sun itself being the door. The sun also reflects brightly in the shiny snowy yard in the foreground.

Here's my dog in begging position number three. He cycles through positions, trying ever-so-subtly to get our attention.
Those are my brown butter cookies. I took some other cookies to a neighbor the other day. Her eyes lit up and she said, "are those your brown butter cookies?" They were not. They were another very delicious recipe, but not brown butter. But she put the idea in my head, so I made some brown butter cookies and took her some today, since she was my inspiration.
