Hello! I'm looking for remote work, or a Northern Virginia hybrid with a reasonable commute, providing security or adjacent services. Ideally, working more on the strategic side, or managing a small team or short projects.

I've done a bit of everything -- compliance and application testing, iOS hacking, reverse engineering, corporate security, tabletops, presentations, training, etc. Worked at GD, MITRE, Intrepidus and NCC Groups, and most recently, Expel.

Things I love: problem solving, programming (especially building proof of concepts), cryptography, documentation and knowledge management, building a security program.

I'll be at
#ShmooCon if anyone wants to meet up. #FediHired #InfoSec #jobs

So @caseyliss@mastodon.social has just been thinking about the environment all this time? @atpfm@mastodon.social https://urbanists.social/@straphanger/115023218864976559

@wendynather@infosec.exchange The number of cold emails (really, they're SPAM, I don't care how legit the intention is) that start with crap like that is infuriating.

90% addressed to someone who is NOT me (but often is a former co-worker, and references that co-worker's experience...). Because I have a catch-all domain, the email isn't even to my address.

I constantly want to reply with, not just snark, but genuine "get the fuck out of my email you idiot" messages, but I think most of them are probably fully automated AI spam.

And the few that aren't automated are probably some poorly-sourced address list, that the salesdroids in question aren't bothering to vet in the least. (so I still feel justified criticizing them severely...)

But as I said, it won't make any difference anyway, so...every day I delete a dozen emails.

Tech purchase advice: I've been trying to find a suitable power strip / laptop charger for my kids as they head off to college.

Requirements:

* We'd like something in a mini-tower format (vertical, not taking up a lot of desk space)
* USB-A and USB-C ports
* USB-PD to charge 14" macbook pro (I think 65 W?)
* 3-4 AC outlets
* on/off switch

The kickers are the power switch (not all have one), and it has to be UL listed.

We found one we liked, from $MADE-UP-NAME on Amazon, but discovered it wasn't UL certified. (plus, a bunch of the 1-star reviews talked about high failure rates).

Any suggestions? Hopefully from a brand we know/trust like Anker, Belkin, etc. And not $100. Otherwise, we may just pick up a generic strip from Target and they can deal with normal charging blocks...

@ivory@tapbots.social Is there any way (or are there plans) to display BlueSky quote posts in the timeline? I can see the quoter, through a bridge, but the quoted post is just a big url.

Or do I just need to follow them through a different bridge, and that’ll take care of it for me?

The sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land
Plumes of smoke rise and merge into the leaden sky
A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers
But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking
