I'm confused by how people talk about university/college. Often, people mention college textbooks and essay assignments. I'm doing a bachelor's in CS in Berlin and in three years at university, I've had exactly one course that required essays, which was a course that was simultaneously a study on teaching methodology where the class was recorded for the study, and exactly zero courses that had required reading—I have had courses with recommended or supplementary reading, but it wasn't necessary.
