I just migrated to a new single-user instance, so I guess it's #introduction time again!
I'm Alison, a #music obsessive with a penchant for #songwriting, #MusicTheory, #ElectronicMusic, #synthesizers, and #guitar. I'll mostly post about music, w/ other fun sprinkled in.
Until the #Fediverse, I was away from social media for about ten years b/c in its corporate forms it makes me crazy. Turns out, though, it's probably not the humans that are damaged, just the platforms. So glad to be here!
Any server recs for my mom? She's a 70-something knitter and progressive living in New England, and she just quit Facebook for good.
She's into fiber art, yoga, science, progressive politics, and dachshunds. (yeah, I know. I have a cool mom.) Where should she find her home?
I've checked out the @FediTips@social.growyourown.services guide, which is great. Just looking for more personal recommendations.

Two facts from my #rss reader today:
Many cars today produce around twenty-five gigabytes of data per hour. Thatβs roughly the size of all English-language Wikipedia articlesβevery hour.
https://lithub.com/ruled-by-numbers-how-data-dominates-every-facet-of-our-daily-lives/ In the UK, the water shortage is so bad that the government is urging citizens to help save water by deleting old emails.

What a world.
I'm fully not changing my profile photo to a clippy, but I have some appreciation for this video.
I mean, I guess it's kind of true. Clippy just wanted to help.

When I tell people I play games they usually look at me funny, but interactive storytelling is freaking great. If you've ever wanted to try playing a game and you're worried about the mechanics, you can usually play in story mode or easy difficulty and have a great time exploring the story without being frustrated.

Good thing we still have local hardware stores here. Looks like I'm going to be taking more advantage of them.
Great reporting from @404mediaco@mastodon.social as usual.

Live Stream Performance for Radio Free Fedi Fest
I had the opportunity to play a streaming set for the awesome Radio Free Fedi fest on July 30. It was an absolute blast to prepare for, and I did something I've always wanted to do but have never actually done: a full-length solo set with synths, guitars, and vocals that is 100% live. That is, there are no backing tracks.
