As a kid, I thought the Escom Greymate (486SX, 25 MHz, 4 MB RAM) couldn’t run Jazz Jackrabbit or Windows 95. I tried both and failed.

Now, with today’s knowledge, I wonder if I could make them work. At least on paper, the machine meets the minimum requirements for both. #retrocomputing

Looking at the POST screen though, it reports “640K Base Memory, 3072K Extended”. So it’s actually less than 4 MB. Could that have been the culprit? #retrocomputing

What are my chances that the expansion bus connector on my Escom Greymate carries an ISA signal so I can connect a sound card? There’s zero evidence online that a dock for this laptop ever existed, so how hard would it be for someone with no electronics experience to find out if it carries ISA? #retrocomputing
