#WWII Thirty-five years ago today I visited Hiroshima's Peace Park and Memorial and folded paper cranes.

Sadako Sasaki was just two when the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima. Though she survived the blast, she later developed leukaemia from radiation exposure. Nov 23, 1942 #WWII Dad "Left Mareeba. Landed at Port Moresby Maple Field. 3 hour flight in B-17. The field has improved considerable since I left. Just able to recognize it." Dad, a member of the 35th Fighter Group, 5th Air Force, returned to #NewGuinea after eloping with our Mom in #Australia. Dad disobeyed orders and went AWOL after receiving leave.
