Thank you for all of the well wishes today.
I am getting around slightly better and am anxiously waiting for all of my muscles to relax so my lower back will follow suit.
Just to make me smile my husband challenged me to a race. He even offered to loan me his walker and a head start. Summer would officiate. I said no thank you but I could picture us in action.
Here's hoping that I can stand up straight without pain tomorrow because it would be helpful for sure.
When I was young my mother would say on my most difficult days that I could laugh or cry and it wouldn't change a thing except how I felt so I might as well laugh.
Tonight I went for the laugh.
Here's to tomorrow being a more comfortable and productive day.
I stepped outside gingerly today. There are pink roses right outside the front door.

Summer is staying close while I'm not moving much.
I settled in to watch some baseball so she naps next to my chair.
She always seems to know who needs attention.
I found some soup I froze just for a day like today. My husband will heat it up for us for dinner.
Easy peasy.
Taking a sick day when you are a caregiver can be tricky but so far so good.
I'm past the being cranky cause it hurts phase of my back pain.
Thank goodness.

Here we are again waiting for a VA medical phone appointment that probably won't happen. They are forty minutes late.
The VA has gotten less and less reliable for phone, video and scheduled tests. After the time is past, sometimes by a day or two, they will note that the appointment was canceled due to staff shortage.
Summer is not amused that we sat here gathered around the phone for an hour.
I'm not either.
Back to my heating pad.

Summer is keeping an eye on me while I'm not moving because my back is out.
I over did the gardening yesterday.
I think.
The heating pad is my friend.
No sunset tonight.
Only fog.
There is way more fog now.
Summer and I are feeling kind of quiet.

Our begonias usually live next to our front door. This year because our entry way needed major construction all the plants were moved out of the way.
Now they live under the apple tree. If I tried to move them now they would break.
So that's that.
I do wish they were where they would be seen.
They are gorgeous.

What to do when you are headed out to the garden carrying tools, new plants, and a mat to cushion your old knees, and you can't carry the rest of the stuff you need?
You send super Summer back to retrieve the gloves and bag of seeds. She is the most enthusiastic helper I've ever worked with.
We are getting things done before it's too hot for us to work outside.

Summer and I are up to our usual antics this morning.
She lounges on me while I enjoy the single cup of coffee I allow myself to start the day.
Summer tells me she loves me with hugs and kisses. I tell her I love her more and we go on until someone gives.
You never know who will win but today I got the last word. I definitely love her more on this sunny Sunday.

Summer and I have spent lots of quality time together today. From the crack of dawn until an after dinner cuddle on our deck. We usually look to our west. Tonight we shifted our chairs north facing where all the color was happening.
We started out and are finishing our day surrounded by golden light.
We are thankful for this view. It feels so good to know that not everything can be controlled by those who would control us. Not all beauty can be stifled by those who don't understand what real beauty looks like. Plastic surgery and the pursuit of cold perfection doesn't make anyone a beautiful person. Our differences and capacity to love each other are what make us uniquely special.
These moments can't be measured in dollars or gold but are priceless and they are already ours.
