I believe in democracy, real democracy, not democracy skewed in favour of the rich and powerful who, to say the least, have questionable motives. I believe that wealth and opportunities should be shared more equally, promoting cooperation and social cohesion. I believe that society should be measured by how well we look after those near the bottom of the heap. I believe that we can have these things with independence. A Scottish socialist republic would be a country to be proud of.

Dame Andrea Jenkins is an English Mayor. I would describe her as on the far right of the political spectrum. She likened Reform's women's movement to 'Blair's babes' and 'Cameron's cuties', Jenkyns declared she was βproud to be one of Farage's fillies". I wonder what tying yourself to a male figure in this way says about some women? I was born in the 60s in Elsie Inglis Hospital. When I growing up my mother was a shop-steward. I wonder what such powerful women would have made of Jenkins?

Is there a disconnect between cause and effect? There is protest and lots of comment on immigration yet no apparent awareness on the impacts of lack of progress on climate change, on wars and famines, while at the same time rich countries slash foreign aid budgets. All of these things encourage mass population shifts. Maybe if people want less immigration they should vote for politicians who are much more sympathetic to the impact of their choices?

Why does it feel like so many politicians are corrupt and for sale to the highest bidder? What happened to people who actually believe in real things and have a sense of morality? Has it always been like this and 'honest' politicians are rare beasts?
Why is there a seemingly casual disregard when using terms like the UK? We regularly see stories talking about UK issues on say education or health but dig a little deeper and these stories only relate to England and sometimes to England and Wales. Is the lack of care a symptom of a disregard for Northern Ireland and Scotland? Yet at the same time, suggest that the UK be broken up and the bile we are met with has to be seen to be believed.
Is it time to end the UK?
