This is one of my favorite Buddhist chants, and on days like these I am particularly challenged by the line "let no one, out of anger or ill will, wish anyone any harm."

The Discourse On Love: We who want to attain peace should practice being upright, humble, and capable of using loving speech. We will know how to live simply and happily, with senses calmed, without being covetous and carried away by the emotions of the majority. Let us not do anything that will be disapproved by the wise ones. And this is what we contemplate: May everyone be happy and safe, and may their hearts be filled with joy. May all living beings live in security and in peace: beings who are frail or strong, tall or short, big or small, visible or invisible, near or far away, already born or yet to be born. May all of them dwell in perfect tranquility. Let no one do harm to anyone. Let no one put the life of anyone in danger. Let no one, out of anger or ill will, wish anyone any harm. Just as a mother loves and protects her only child at the risk of her own life, we should cultivate boundless love to offer to all living beings in the entire cosmos. We should let our boundless love pervade the whole universe, above, below, and across. Our love will know no obstacles, our hearts will be absolutely free from hatred and enmity. Whether standing or walking, sitting, or lying, as long as we are awake, we should maintain this mindfulness of love in our hearts. This is the noblest way of living. Free from wrong views, greed, and sensual desires, living in beauty and realizing perfect understanding, those who practice boundless love will certainly transcend birth and death.

To avoid some of the negative aspects of doomscrolling, avoid clicking on headlines that include words like may, might, could, possibly, projected to, etc. This isn't #news, it's speculation, less facts and more guesswork... a lot like #AI. And of course it's filled with worst case scenarios to keep us clicking. Modern #media profits from spreading misery, so be sure to remember that unimaginable things like #peace and love are always always always possible.

It's wise to look past the constant distractions and instead focus on what they're trying to distract us from. It's wiser still to learn from what they're trying to distract us from, and focus our attentions on building the world we want, a healthy and inclusive world without anything requiring distraction.

U.S. authorities have secretly placed location tracking devices in targeted shipments of advanced chips they see as being at high risk of illegal diversion to #China, according to two people with direct knowledge of the previously unreported law enforcement tactic.
The measures aim to detect #AI chips being diverted to destinations which are under U.S. export restrictions, and apply only to select shipments under investigation, the people said. #tech

Despite indoctrination in militaristic education during World War II, Yasuo Fukuda would go on to value the importance of diplomacy when he served as chief Cabinet secretary and then prime minister.
In an interview with The Asahi Shimbun, Fukuda, 89, said, “The role of a politician is to make every effort to not create a situation in which a nation is forced to go to war.” #Japan #peace

In the old days, the grattachecca, made from ice transported to Rome by cart from snow mountains, kept the residents of the Italian capital cool. Ice is more easily available these days, but the traditional cooler, served with a mix of fruit and colourful syrups, continues to refresh Romans as Europe swelters in a heatwave.

North #Korea has begun dismantling propaganda loudspeakers in certain regions along the border with South Korea. This appears to be a positive, albeit cautious, response to the South Korean military’s removal of loudspeakers earlier this month.
