It never was conservatism. It was about Trump. Just like 1930βs Germany was about Hitler and Nazism.
βWhatβs happening now isnβt about negotiation, and itβs not about shared governance. Itβs about bending the entire machinery of government; every institution, every lever of influence, to serve one ideology: Trumpism. Not Republicanism. Not conservatism. Trumpism. Thatβs an entirely different beast. Itβs not a political philosophy; itβs a loyalty test. And in Trumpβs America, youβre either a loyalist or youβre an enemy.β

βItβs important to see Trumpβs occupation of Washington, D.C. as a trial run for a possible military occupation of the United States, including martial law, later in his term. I donβt want to be paranoid, but Trump may figure he needs such a plan if his strategies to hold Congress after the midterm elections raise too much public opposition, especially in big Democratic cities.
I suspect heβs most interested in learning six things:
1. How quickly and obediently the Defense Department and the National Guard are able to act in a major city
2. How legal challenges are handled in the federal courts
3. How the media reacts
4. Whether it wipes away almost all Epstein stories.
5. How it plays with his base.
6. How it plays with Republicans in Congress

When Mark Zuckerberg moved in next door
βZuckerberg has also brought intense levels of surveillance to the neighborhood, including cameras positioned at his homes with views of his neighborsβ property. He has a team of private security guards who sit in cars, filming some visitors and asking others what they are doing as they walk on public sidewalks.β

βAnother great American migration is now underway, this time forced by the warming that is altering how and where people can live. For now, itβs just a trickle. But in the corners of the countryβs most vulnerable landscapes β on the shores of its sinking bayous and on the eroding bluffs of its coastal defenses β populations are already in disarray.β

βCRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. β
Federal agents stormed two Emiliano's Mexican Restaurant and Bar locations in the Pittsburgh area on Thursday, according to the restaurant.
The restaurant posted on their social media platforms that federal agents "stormed our restaurant in a show of force that went far beyond anything reasonable or humane. They didn't just detain people - they raided the heart of our business, tore through our spaces, and left behind a trail of fear, confusion and destruction.
Our kitchens were flipped. Our walk-ins emptied. Food trashed. Doors broken. Lives shattered."

America is now a dictatorship
One of his DOGE employees gets mugged and he orders an illegal takeover of DC, but the Capitol gets attacked on January 6, police are beaten and the VP is threatened with hanging, and he doesnβt do a thing.

@gottalaff.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy You saw it coming and made plans. The question is what do we do here now? Some people are standing up like the governor of Illinois, AOC, and Bernie, and a few others. But the news/press coprs(e) is complicit. And more Democrats need to step up like Pritzker.
@gottalaff.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy and just as I ask the question, Robert Reich came up with a great piece today
What can we do now to stop Trumpβs dictatorship? From Robert Reichβ¨βHow can we fight this? The Trump regime is threatening sanctuary cities and towns with loss of federal revenue. Some states, such as New Hampshire, have passed laws making it illegal for cities and towns to provide sanctuary for immigrants and others.β©But the Trump regime cannot prevent us from joining together with other citizens to become a Sanctuary Community β providing assistance to families whose lives and well-being are threatened by Trumpβs federal police.ββ¨https://open.substack.com/pub/robertreich/p/how-you-and-your-neighbors-can-become?r=ce00&utm_medium=ios...

2/ βSanctuary Communities β which are being organized around the country β simply announce themselves publicly and take steps such as:
- monitoring and documenting ICE raids,
establishing an early-warning system to announce where ICE is making arrests,
witnessing and videotaping arrests and disappearances,
- providing information to national and state media,
- meeting with state and town officials to oppose local law enforcement collusion with ICE,
- speaking with community groups, houses of worship, libraries, hospitals and clinics, veterans groups, schools, and colleges about ICE mistreatment of citizens and immigrants,
- raising funds for emergency assistance, and
- joining other Sanctuary Communities across the nation to stand against the proliferation of police-state tactics that do not represent our shared values as Americans.
