#Introduction for new server:
I'm a retired software engineer and former librarian, and a long-time but very intermittently active member of the SCA (the hobby for people who collect hobbies).

Since retiring and building my house, I have written and self-published 2 fantasy novels: Heir of the Bindings and Broken Oaths & Bindings, volumes 1 and 2 of the Elderkin Chronicles. Volume 3 is currently being written.
I am using Superior Magpie Press (in Superior, Colorado) as my imprint.

On September 15 2024 a new member was added to my household: my cat Nyx

Nyx was found wandering by Animal Control at the beginning of the month and handed over to the Humane Society. Now she runs the house.

I named her Nyx after the night sky because she is not completely black. There are little sprinkles of white hairs in her fur that I think of as her constellations. The cluster that comes closest to being a spot, it visible in the photo. A galaxy, perhaps?

My house burned to the ground in the 12/30/2021 Marshall Fire and Wind Event.
I moved into the (mostly complete) new house on June 25, 2024.

I'm very proud of it: the house was shortlisted for the Colorado Green Building Guilds' Annual award, but was beaten by a much more elaborate public building.

On Mastodon, we are the algorithm.

Besides things that matter to me personally, I have a policy of always boosting job openings and job hunting posts. I generally try to boost other posts that might useful to other readers, or where someone is looking for information in a non-annoying way, even if it is not a topic that interests me strongly.

As a former librarian I also tend to boost publication announcements unless they are very badly structured...

That's my algorithm.
