I fits, I sits: Corsi-Rosenthal Box edition.

A little Calico cat, looking down, is sitting inside the four filters of a partially completed Corsi-Rosenthal Box. It’s a tight fit because this is a small version, using 10-inch square filters. The future bottom of the unfinished box and some scissors are on the table. You can also see a bowl and folded tablecloth on the table in the background, revealing that the cat is on the dining room table, which is theoretically not allowed.

So, I didn’t have the stomach to watch all of that, but the DC Metropolitan Police is now headed by US Attorney General Pam Bondi. That’s going to be, uh, interesting.

FYI for my friends outside the US (and probably a few in the US): the District of Columbia has a unique legal status within the US. It hasn’t got any independent power, just those the federal government has given to it. This makes taking away local government powers quite easy compared to anywhere else in the US. #dc #dmv

I have a sacrificial front yard that’s designed to communicate to the neighborhood that I’m respecting the norms here and keeping a (little bit of a) trimmed lawn. Mullet landscaping: Party in the back.

And then I get volunteers like this Cut-leaf Grape Fern, Sceptridium dissectum. What a little treasure! Lucky me!

But I can’t just mow it. I guess I’m going to cross my fingers and try relocating it.

I feel like I need to keep everyone alive.

A Cut-leaf Grape Fern pokes up through some scruffy uncut lawn grass and duff. The single infertile leaf looks like a particularly chunky, stout little fern. The single fertile front, however, resembles quite a few long branches dotted with little green grapes. It sticks up toward the sky, while the infertile front lies flat out on the grass.
