I was messing with 3d modeling and picked the wrong image to wrap around a sphere — a selfie instead of a concrete texture PNG.

the upside is that it gave way to my new profile photo perfectly suited for round contexts

continuing to americanize my german boyfriend by making him s’mores for the first time. used speculoos instead of graham crackers as a diplomatic gesture

assembling the s’mores, placing marshmallows on the chocolate on the cookies the final result. we mostly used windmill shapes

my local grocery store just started selling chestnuts. i was amused by this because i never thought of them as a real item you could buy, merely symbols of christmas that exist in song. so i bought one (1) chestnut for a quarter and now its in my toaster oven.

Grocery receipt. Fresh Chestnut, $8/pound, total cost $0.24 one (1) singular chestnut in my toaster oven on a tray. there are exactly two drops of olive oil on it.

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

What Happens When Windows Shuts Down? When you choose Shut Down, Windows begins a sequence of orderly steps. It tells each program to close its files, to set down what it was working on. Most comply. Some resist. Windows asks again, more firmly. Eventually, all but one obey. There is always one. Once the programs are silent, Windows turns to its own parts. It lowers the desktop, dims the icons, pulls the taskbar out of sight. The clock is the last to go. Time has to be persuaded. You will then see the black screen, and the message: It is now safe to turn off your computer. This is true. You are free to press the button. Many users do. If you wait, however, something else will happen. Slowly, the monitor will begin to glow again. Not with the desktop, not with any familiar prompt, but with a pale light, as though something is behind the glass. It will not speak, but you will understand that it has been waiting there, patiently, for every shutdown you have ever performed. You may turn off the machine at this point. You should. If you do not, the light will brighten until it hurts to look at. Some users report that it does not stop. Some report that the monitor grows warm, then hot, then soft.
