the world runs on kindness and empathy.

look around you: very little about modern life would be possible if psychopaths and assholes were anything more than a tiny minority of people.

be the positive force your environment needs.

Last year, the universe sent me a message. The universe told me to start going to queer raves, and so I did.

It’s been a good time.

Here’s a retrospective I wrote on 2024, the year I discovered that I like dancing, plus reflections on parenting, music, fascism, fashion, and trans joy:

in 2017 i found myself between jobs and i spent three months writing about why rent control is good, from an economics perspective.[^1]

from the beginning i assumed no one would read it; it’s a self-published paper on a kind of obscure yet semi-controversial topic.

yet recently i looked my name up, and it has been:

- cited in a law review paper
- cited in a phd thesis
- cited in a book on tenants
- submitted to the Alberta legislature

and that’s pretty cool!

I can finally talk about what we've been working on for the past two years(!)

Using
#sigstore, GitHub now supports artifact signing, which allows you to create unforgeable provenance guarantees for any software you build inside Actions.

It's been a heck of a ride, & you can read more about (and learn how to use it) here:

@mcc@mastodon.social only slightly more useless suggestion: the one and only one advantage static site generators have here (because you’re still going to debugging it breaking every twelve months) is at least your posts are all in flat files and you don’t have to worry about losing the original source

This Economist Crunched the Numbers and Stopped Dating Men
I’d call her a queer Emily Oster but that’s a pejorative these days
