Dear fans of #BonkWave #NotBonkWave and #ElectronicMusic made in #BitwigStudio - here is a new preset that I made in Bitwig Studio v4.0:
AS Complexification Bass v1.0
I like the sound, and complexity of Don Buchla's various musical instruments and the amazing VCV Hacks from Jakub Ciupinski. I went ahead and made my own version of a Smooth Sync Bass with Buchla-esque Low Pass Gates as a Bitwig Studio preset. This is still a work in progress and will likely change a few times as I work with it and make adjustments. You can get a free copy from my web site:

Updated to v3.3 on 03/08/2025: Do you like #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave ? Do you use #Bitwig ? Would you like to try my #fxGrid interpretation of the #ShermanFilterbank ? Then head to my website and check out what I have to offer. I've written up instructions and you can download it (built with Bitwig Studio v4.0) for free at:

Fans of #BonkWave and users of #Bitwig please take note.
This #Buchla259 emulation is making me inordinately pleased with the performative promise of this preset. Metallic, FM, modulated tones and atonality are all a nudge of the dial or flick of a state away.
Offered as v1.7, this #BitwigStudio preset (made in v5.0) is available on my website. Please note the newer Bitwig version which was needed for newer Grid features.
Anyone out there want to try it?

Updated 04/08/2025: Do you like #DelayNetworks and echoes in your #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave ? Check out my #SealEggs for #BitwigStudio preset! Now at version 1.53 (built in v4.0) and is ready to use. The updated version makes some small internal adjustments and improves the input drive response and crackle noise levels.
You can get a copy of the preset from my website and use it in your own #Bitwig #ElectronicMusic making.

It's been years since the 'Xodus' and I am so very glad to be here. I co-own and operate a small #brewery in #NewZealand where we make great traditional and #GlutenFreeBeer. I occupy an intersection of #art and #science where I create #ArtistsTools to make #ElectronicMusic of the #BonkWave #NotBonkWave varieties with #FrenchHorn and #Benjolins in #Bitwig
I love #cooking #nature #SciFi #ReadingAloud #puzzles #cats and riding this lovely planet as we hurtle through the cosmos. #introduction

#BonkWave or #NotBonkWave Ready!
Here's a fresh demo of the latest version of my preset. I've heavily reworked this after several days of comparison testing against my own #ShermanFilterbank. If you like what you are hearing this is, in essence the default patch with some modulation added. The preset is built in #BitwigStudio v4.0. Mind your ears!

Post postscript. Today my #ShermanFilterbank is behaving more typically today. Dirty pot made better by using? Switching and turn it back on again?
More critical listening shows I was close but not on the mark yesterday. Today? A lot closer. I want to add some basic switches to adjust the envelope follower to smooth it and attenuate in heavy signal conditions.

Post post postscript. Clearly there are things that happen to semiconductors as they age and so I have added an "Age" modulator that introduces random cross-modulated wiggles that attenuate in the longer the gate is open. #Wibbly #ElectronicMusicProduction in #BitwigStudio and ideal for #BonkWave - whew.
Time for bed and dreaming of making some exciting music.
Postscript. Here is a little audio sample of my #BitwigStudio #ShermanikFilterbank v4.0 in development. There are #BonkWave #ElectronicMusic possibilities here. Mind your ears as it gets screechy and loud.

My #BucketList has meeting #HermanGillis of #Sherman at the top. I would love to have a few hours to talk with him and appreciate his process of discovery. He is an under-appreciated #genius .
Now I need to rewrite my instructions page and curate versions so previous editions remain available in case anyone is actually using my preset for production and #music snd #SoundDesign purposes.

The fluttering resonant frequency response is one of the things I have been trying to achieve where the filters ride and sing along the leading edge of the envelope follower. Or βchirpβ across the transient. And suddenly the #TB303 origins rise into focus.
No #AI could solve this #ElectronicMusic #3BodyProblem - it takes deliberate personal struggle, critical listening and a willingness to adopt radical ideas of interdependent relationships to understand and bring to life.

Or a lot depending on how much it is added or subtracted. The envelope follower in previous versions was too responsive and slowing it allows for βflutteringβ.
The resonance wants to sit just on the edge of self-oscillation so the pitch doesnβt dip if it goes too deep into self-oscillation.
The cutoff frequency then becomes somewhat βelasticβ based on how much modulation is added or removed.
It feels like I need to do a bit of gain management to enable proper howling. Itβs getting close.

Much of today disappeared into comparison testing my #BitwigStudio #ShermanikFilterbank preset. Iβve decided that it sounds so different that it is now at v4.0.
Is it a good idea to knowingly use a semi-non-functional piece of hardware as a guide? Maybe. Have I found that everything influences everything else in a messy-yet-musically pleasing manner? Yes!
I had built the ADSR portion as entirely focused on modulating the resonance, but in reality the cutoff frequency bounces a littleβ¦

I was not thrilled to find that filter 1 on my hardware unit is faulty, but filter 2 works fine and sounds reasonably similar to my preset.
My plan is to spend some time aligning the response of the various knobs in the preset to be closer aligned to the hardware unit. And fortunately I can do most of that with only one working filter.

I have just been introduced to the most excellent #brass #ambient #jazz of #DanielHerskedal and am looking forward to exploring everything that they have made.
His technique of modulating between vocalizing through his instruments and playing is fascinating and enjoyable.
