Switching from Unity to Godot, preamble

I'm a programmer in my forties, I learned some Basic, Hypertalk and TurboPascal when I was younger, then Java, C, C++ etc etc at university, then PHP and various other web script stuff at work.

Around 2012 / 2013 I started experimenting with GameMaker, interesting for the first time but not good enough for me - I need a decent programming language :)

Then I switched to Unity. Initially this was a relatively good experience. The learning curve was ridiculously steep, but it was powerful and C# reminded me a lot of what I liked about Java and other OOP languages. It did feel as if a lot of basic features were being replaced by more complex, bigger subsystems that took a long time to learn and never seemed really finished or bugfree.

Time for some #introductions!

I'm a writer, game dev, and activist living in Belgium. I'm trying to pay rent by programming and maintaining web sites. My real passion is writing and making indie video games. I created this account a while ago, nice to see more people now!

I'm interested in anti-authoritarian
#communism and #anarchism, #queer and #trans life, #gamedev, #indiedev, #writing and #art. I also like #dnd and #pathfinder and board games. #ACAB and All landlords are parasites (ALAP?).
