@thedarktangent@defcon.social Hey why are fascists and antivaxxers being platformed at DEFCON this year? Are you afraid to tell them no? I'm happy to do it if you guys aren't.

Also, I got to boo Jim O'Neill at the AIxCC winner announcement talk. That was cathartic. Fuck RFK and fuck Trump. #defcon33
So, I'm at DEFCON. I'm releasing a tool tomorrow called Freon.
Freon is intended to help international software teams resist government backdoors by decentralizing code signing.
Freon uses FROST (compat with Ed25519) and age (for encrypting each share).
If you're here, come to the DEFCON Furs at 2:30 pm. I'll be in fursuit for my talk announcing it. Should be a fun time!
(If you're not here, I have a blog post scheduled to go live at the same time.)
Either way, Freon will be open source. :3
Hot take: ISO standards do not meaningfully matter to me, because an extremely impoverished, unbanked person cannot freely access their contents from a smartphone or library computer.
Therefore, I go out of my way to avoid referring to them or relying on them in anyway.
Of course, I'm not the first person to hate the ISO paywall: https://www.theregister.com/2021/07/31/iso_paywall_battle/

I've disabled the ActivityPub plugin for my blog, for the following reasons:
It kept breaking for people (returning JSON instead of HTML, sporadically).
Every time someone liked/boosted one of my blog pages, it created a comment for me to approve/reject, which got very annoying.
It was a fun experiment, but it's more trouble than it's worth.
