It's my birthday today ^____^!

The day started off with pancakes(my parents sent me a can of maple syrup from home by mail), then I saw an effing glorious double rainbow outside(!!!), then went to kick Devine's butt at squash... and tonight's plan is to have homemade pizza and play games.

Most perf.

A follow up to this post by Devine, about Chimi, a regular feline visitor:
https://merveilles.town/@neauoire/115650977592036545

SOOO, kind of a funny coincidence, but I met Chimi's owner today, B, while doing laundry! Up until now neither Dev or I knew who the cat belonged to.

B's boat is on our dock and she told me today that Chimi is a bit of a wild one. He likes to wander. She said she adopted Chimi while in the Mariana Islands, prior to sailing to Japan. SO it turns he's a South Pacific kitty!

So I have to ask B, but I'm pretty sure the name is Japanese to mean "mountain demon", which is SOOO damn fitting...!

Also, apparently, I had brieftly corresponded with B by email a little while ago because she'd seen the Sailing in Japan wiki entry on our website :)!! She said our page was most useful

Engine repair rant

Every year, thus far, there's an issue with our marine diesel engine that I have to troubleshoot. This year's issue was a raw water pump leak, but not just any kind, water was coming out of the weeping hole, indicating that the pump shaft seal was bad.

Getting the shaft out of the body of the pump was effing hard, I had to borrow tools to do it. After prying it apart, I thought that I could just take the seal out and replace it and that'd be it, but then I saw that the shaft was kinda scarred, and one of the bearings looked like shit >_>... aaaand I somehow broke a circlip and now 1/2 of it is stuck in the body of the pump(improvised a tool to get it out, that was a BAD idea...).

I was not expecting to have to rebuild this damn thing. Never. Effing. Easy.

On the upside, i now have a pretty good understanding of how the pump works and how it can fail XD....
